Help Us Wrap Up This Fundraiser

By Robert Parry
August 4, 2008

In July, Consortiumnews.com published a record 75 news articles and videos, as we continue our effort to make this Web site an important window through which you and other readers can look out upon the real world, which is often obscured by the trivialized U.S. news media.

Over the next few weeks, I hope to add my own personal perspectives on how the American news media descended to the depths of today’s silly and often erroneous journalism. My vantage point over the past three decades was as a national correspondent for the Associated Press, Newsweek, PBS Frontline and other news outlets.

As one reader recently wrote us, this story of the U.S. news media’s complicity in enabling the government to mislead the people – and to suppress stories that would create a truly informed electorate – is “the biggest story today, and has to be publicized.”

But to do that, we need the help of our readers.

Despite the struggling economy, we had hoped to raise $40,000 in our mid-year fund-raiser. I’ve since cut our goal in half, to $20,000.

Yet, we still remain a couple of thousand dollars short. So please contribute what you can so we can at least reach our scaled-back goal and keep this Web site alive.

Tax-deductible contributions can be made by credit card at the Consortiumnews.com Web site or by sending a check to:

Thank you.
Robert Parry,  Editor

Robert Parry broke many of the Iran-Contra stories in the 1980s for the Associated Press and Newsweek. He founded Consortiumnews.com in 1995 as the Internet's first investigative magazine. He saw it as a way to combine modern technology and old-fashioned journalism to counter the increasing triviality of the mainstream U.S. news media.
