US Confronts the Russia-Iran Alliance

While the Bush and now Obama administrations have sought to pressure Iran on its nuclear program, Tehran has been building up a stronger relationship with its historic adversary, Russia, and with other countries outside the U.S. orbit, like Venezuela.

As news analyst Pepe Escobar notes, these new alliances – combined with Chinese and Arab resistance to the continued dominance of the U.S. dollar – present complex challenges to Washington as it seeks to protect U.S. interests in the Middle East and elsewhere.
